Plains Commerce Bank’s Cam Buchholtz Awarded $4,000 Scholarship

We’re proud to celebrate Cam Buchholtz, a valued member of the Plains Commerce Bank team, who was recently awarded a $4,000 scholarship from the South Dakota Bankers Association! This honor recognizes Cam’s hard work, dedication, and potential as he continues building his career in the banking and mortgage industry.

Balancing School and Career

Cam is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in operations management at the University of South Dakota. Since joining Plains Commerce Bank - Windsor Mortgage  just over a year ago, he’s already made a lasting impact on our team.

Cam began his career as a Mortgage Training Development Specialist, where he researched bond programs, created detailed training materials, and led sessions to help both internal teams and external clients strengthen their knowledge of mortgage products and processes.

This summer, he advanced into his current role as a Mortgage Client Training & Development Specialist. In this position, Cam continues to refine our bond training programs while also providing real-time loan support to mortgage brokers nationwide. He works closely with clients, reviews loan files, and solves challenges to ensure smooth, successful transactions—helping both our team and our partners thrive.

Eyes on the Future

Looking ahead, Cam hopes to grow into a Loan Officer or Account Executive role, where he can directly apply his mortgage expertise to support clients and drive business growth. Long-term, he also aspires to take on a leadership role within the organization or broader industry, mentoring others and contributing to innovative solutions that enhance the client experience.

The Impact of the Scholarship

Receiving the South Dakota Bankers Association Scholarship is an important milestone for Cam, providing financial relief as he works toward his degree.

“This scholarship provides significant financial relief,” Cam shares. “It reduces the student loan debt I’ll graduate with and allows me to focus on my education, career goals, and helping our clients succeed. Knowing that others believe in my potential motivates me to work even harder.”
