Dawn Van Nieuwenhuyzen
Senior Mortgage Banker
Meet Dawn Van Nieuwenhuyzen. For more than 20 years, Dawn Van Nieuwenhuyzen has helped individuals and families achieve their dream of homeownership with confidence. She has consistently been the top producing mortgage loan officer at Plains Commerce Bank and has earned the distinction of being the number one Homes for Heroes loan officer in the nation. While those accomplishments are meaningful, Dawn measures success by the relationships she builds and the trust her clients place in her.
As one of South Dakota's most experienced and trusted mortgage professionals, Dawn has helped thousands of borrowers navigate the home financing process. Before becoming a mortgage banker, she spent ten years in the agricultural industry working in financial services and underwriting. That experience built a strong foundation in lending, risk assessment, and customer service that she continues to draw on today. Combined with more than 20 years of mortgage experience, it allows her to anticipate challenges, answer complex questions, and guide borrowers through the mortgage process with confidence.
Whether a client is purchasing their first home, refinancing, buying an investment property, financing a second home, or exploring their mortgage options, Dawn is committed to finding the loan solution that best fits their goals. Throughout her career, she has helped homebuyers with conventional loans, FHA loans, VA loans, USDA Rural Development loans, first time homebuyer programs, refinancing, debt consolidation, and investment property financing. She is especially passionate about serving teachers, health care professionals, military members, veterans, first responders, and other community heroes through the Homes for Heroes program, helping them save money while purchasing a home.
Clients across Sioux Falls and throughout South Dakota know Dawn for her knowledge, responsiveness, and honest advice. She believes every borrower deserves clear communication and a mortgage experience that feels personal from the first conversation through closing. Her goal is not simply to close a loan but to become a trusted resource long after clients receive the keys to their home.
Dawn earned degrees from North Dakota State University and the University of Mary in Bismarck. She and her husband, Dave, have called the Sioux Falls area home for many years, where they raised their three children and enjoy spending time together at the lake in Yankton, South Dakota.
Family has always been at the center of Dawn's life, and those same values shape the way she serves her clients. She and her team believe every family deserves guidance they can trust, compassionate service, and a lender who genuinely cares about helping them find the place they will call home.
